Meta unveils new VR glasses and Ray-Ban smart glasses
Meta announced several new hardware products and AI integrations. The new Meta VR glasses are priced at $1,300, and updated Ray-Ban smart glasses models will be available at various price points.
Meta unveiled four new hardware products and updates to its existing Ray-Ban smart glasses at its Meta Connect 2026 keynote on September 23. The company also plans to integrate its Muse AI agent into wearables.
The primary announcement was the Meta VR Glasses, a tethered headset scheduled for release next spring with a price tag of $1,300. The device weighs approximately 100 grams and features a magnesium alloy frame with pancake lenses. The VR glasses offer color passthrough and a 5K display, and are the first VR device to receive IMAX Enhanced certification, also supporting Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
Processing, storage, and battery are handled by a separate tethered puck utilizing Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite chip. Meta states the device offers up to three hours of continuous media playback and supports 45W fast charging. Upon launch, 75 games will support hand gestures, and all Quest titles will be compatible with Touch Plus controllers. Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming is also included, though with time limits imposed by Microsoft.
Additionally, Meta updated its Ray-Ban smart glasses lineup. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 models start at $449 and are available now. The camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio version, enabling music, podcast, and call streaming, starts at $349 and ships October 13. Meta Adventurer glasses begin at $249 and are available for pre-order, shipping October 23. Meta is also integrating its Muse AI assistant into these devices, with new features like cycling and public transit directions expected later this year.
