Meta VP for India and Southeast Asia, Sandhya Devanathan, Steps Down

Meta Platforms, Inc. has confirmed the departure of Sandhya Devanathan, who held the position of Vice President overseeing operations in India and Southeast Asia. Devanathan announced her decision on social media, stating it was a "bittersweet decision to move on to my next adventure" after more than ten years with the social media giant.

Devanathan joined Meta, formerly Facebook, in 2016. She held various leadership roles, including as Group Director for e-commerce, travel, and financial services businesses in Southeast Asia. She also served as Managing Director for Facebook Singapore and business head for Vietnam. Her responsibilities were expanded to include India in November 2022, and she assumed the role of Vice President for India and Southeast Asia in January 2023.

Devanathan's exit occurs amidst increasing regulatory scrutiny for Meta in India, one of its largest markets. The Indian government has sought technical changes to combat child sexual abuse material, deepfakes, and unlabelled AI-generated content across Meta's platforms.

Prior to her tenure at Meta, Devanathan spent nearly a decade at Citi and over six years at Standard Chartered Bank. Her next professional move and the specific reasons for her departure from Meta remain undisclosed. The company has not yet announced a replacement for Devanathan or clarified her status in any affiliated roles with other organizations.
