MetaOptics Establishes Malaysian Subsidiary for Metalens Production Expansion
Semiconductor optics firm MetaOptics Ltd has incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary in Malaysia, MetaOptics Technologies Sdn. Bhd., to support its global strategy and advance metalens manufacturing capabilities.
Singapore-based semiconductor optics company MetaOptics Ltd announced the incorporation of its wholly-owned Malaysian subsidiary, MetaOptics Technologies Sdn. Bhd. This move signifies the company's commitment to advancing next-generation optical technologies and strengthening collaborations within Malaysia's semiconductor manufacturing sector.
The expansion into Malaysia is set to include a capital equipment platform for metalens manufacturing in Penang. This facility will house advanced assembly and testing systems for metalens camera modules, a next-generation 12-inch direct laser writer for high-volume production, and automated wafer-level testers. These capabilities aim to shorten development cycles and enhance production yields.
Malaysia was chosen for its established semiconductor ecosystem, skilled engineering talent, and proximity to Singapore, which facilitates supply chain management. MetaOptics intends to collaborate with Malaysian investors and government agencies to develop the regional metalens industry.
Executive Chairman Thng Chong Kim stated that Malaysia's semiconductor infrastructure and process engineering expertise are key factors enabling the establishment of fabrication, assembly, and testing capabilities. Singapore will remain the company's headquarters and primary research and development hub.
