Meta’s Muse AI shows limited impact on corporate bottom lines

While Meta has positioned its Muse agent as a significant force in online shopping, data from a wide range of industries suggests that its actual impact on commerce remains minimal. Wall Street analysts have previously expressed concerns that AI shopping assistants could trigger price wars and erode brand loyalty, yet executives across sectors such as hospitality, food delivery, and finance report that they are not seeing significant disruption.

Companies including Hilton, DoorDash, and Ally Financial have characterized transactions originating from AI agents as insignificant, with some reporting volumes near zero. Contrary to concerns that AI might cause mass subscription cancellations or account closures, companies like Life Time Group have reported no such trend. Meta maintains that over 10 million users have activated Muse, with a significant portion using the tool for shopping tasks.

Despite the slow uptake, some organizations are proactively adjusting their infrastructure. Chipotle, for instance, has begun optimizing its website code to ensure that AI agents can navigate purchasing flows and apply loyalty discounts correctly. While the technology is still in its early stages, businesses are closely monitoring agent behavior to prepare for potential future integration into their sales channels.
