This move comes amid increasing regulatory scrutiny and ongoing lawsuits concerning Meta's handling of child safety and digital well-being across its platforms. The company has been expanding parental controls in response to concerns about excessive screen time and online safety for young users.
Threads, which launched in July 2023 and currently boasts 500 million monthly users, now includes features such as time limit setting, restricting app access during specific hours, and receiving notifications if a teen reports someone or is reported. The platform also offers a 'time asleep' setting for parents to manage. The introduction of these tools aims to provide greater oversight and safety for younger users on the rapidly growing platform.
