METLEN conducts first waste combustion at Protos ERF facility

METLEN has successfully completed the initial waste combustion tests at the Protos Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) located in Cheshire. The facility was developed for Encyclis.

This first firing represents a significant milestone as the project progresses towards commercial operation. The plant is designed to process up to 280,000 tonnes of municipal and industrial waste annually, generating electricity from the waste. This operation significantly reduces the volume of waste destined for landfills.

The Protos ERF facility is situated in Cheshire Business Park, near Ellesmere Port. Construction began in 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Upon becoming operational, the facility will provide employment for approximately 40 permanent staff.

METLEN's involvement in the project encompasses the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) phases. The company is focused on delivering sustainable solutions for waste management and energy generation.
