Metsä Board announces 2026–2030 strategic plan

Metsä Board’s board of directors has finalized a new strategic plan covering the years 2026–2030. The company intends to focus on consumer brand packaging solutions while prioritizing cost efficiency and profitability improvements to navigate uncertain market conditions.

The strategic roadmap is divided into two phases. The first phase involves the execution of a 200-million-euro cost-saving and performance improvement program, aimed for completion by the end of 2028. The second phase will pivot toward growth within consumer packaging, targeting an annual revenue growth rate exceeding four percent.

The business is organized into three segments: Consumer Packaging, Retail Packaging, and Market Pulp. To stabilize cash flow, the company plans to reduce its position in market pulp. Following a heavy investment cycle of approximately one billion euros over the past five years—which increased production capacity and reduced fossil fuel dependence—Metsä Board has stated that no significant new investments are planned for this strategic period.

The company has set financial targets, including a return on capital employed (ROCE) of at least 12 percent by 2029. Management will provide further details regarding the strategy during its quarterly report presentation in April 2026.
