Metsä Board concludes change negotiations in Finland
Metsä Board is reducing its workforce by 150 employees in Finland as part of a cost-saving program. Temporary layoffs may also be implemented in 2026.

Metsä Board Oyj has concluded its change negotiations in Finland, which were part of the company's broader cost-saving and profitability improvement program valued at approximately EUR 200 million. The negotiations resulted in a reduction of 150 positions in Finland.
The company initiated the negotiations in October 2025, involving its entire personnel across operating countries, with an estimated need for up to 315 employee reductions globally, including 155 in Finland. Beyond the workforce reduction, Metsä Board will also reorganize roles and functions to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness.
The concluded negotiations in Finland will lead to approximately EUR 12 million in one-off costs impacting the company's comparable operating result for the fourth quarter of 2025. Change negotiations are continuing in other operating countries, with outcomes to be communicated later.
Furthermore, the negotiations concluded that in 2026, Metsä Board may implement temporary layoff periods in phases at its Finnish production sites to adjust production levels, potentially due to continued low demand for paperboard. Layoffs could last up to 90 days at the Kemi, Kyröskoski, Simpele, and Äänekoski mills, and potentially longer at the Kaskinen and Joutseno facilities.
