Metsä Board Displays Muoto™ Moulded Fibre Solution at Interpack 2026
Metsä Board is showcasing its Muoto™ moulded fibre technology at Interpack 2026, which forms three-dimensional packaging solutions directly from wood pulp as an alternative to plastics.

Metsä Board is presenting its Muoto™ moulded fibre technology at the Interpack 2026 packaging trade fair in Düsseldorf. The technology enables the production of three-dimensional, lightweight, and rigid packaging formed directly from wood pulp without intermediate steps.
The Muoto solution offers an alternative to plastic packaging, particularly in the food service and food packaging sectors. It is suitable for both food packaging and industrial applications and can be combined with paperboards for enhanced branding and shelf-ready packaging. The material is designed to be resistant to grease and moisture and meet food contact requirements.
Metsä Board states that the Muoto technology is currently in a demonstration and pre-commercial sales phase. The company is actively seeking partners and customers to develop new applications and refine the material's performance. The aim is to offer scalable, fibre-based packaging solutions that comply with the European Union's increasingly strict packaging regulations, such as the PPWR directive.
"Muoto is advancing fibre-based materials into more demanding applications," said Antti Valtonen, VP of Muoto projects at Metsä Group's innovation arm, Metsä Spring. "Our goal is to integrate moulded fibre as a component in our comprehensive packaging solutions, improving performance, branding, and recyclability in demanding end-uses."
