Metsä Board: Food-safe paperboard packaging production starts at the mill

Metsä Board Oyj is clarifying the fundamentals of food-safe packaging, stressing that safety begins with the handling of raw materials and the manufacturing process at the paper mill. The company is responding to World Food Safety Day by highlighting the safety assurance of the paperboard packaging it produces.

Laura Remes, SVP of Production & Supply Chain at Metsä Board, states that customers trust the safety of Metsä Board's products. According to her, food safety is always a fundamental part of production and is integrated into daily operations to maintain high standards.

Food-safe paperboard packaging is material designed and manufactured for safe, direct contact with food. Metsä Board asserts that this requires the use of approved raw materials, controlled and hygienic production processes, and certified food safety management systems. The company produces its packaging from fully traceable, fresh wood fibers.

Metsä Board's mills operate under certified food safety and quality management systems such as FSSC 22000 and ISO 22000. The company underscores the importance of carefully selected raw materials, controlled and hygienic production processes, good manufacturing practices (GMP), traceability throughout the value chain, and comprehensive quality assurance systems.
