Metsä Board publishes life cycle assessments for transparency
Metsä Board is increasingly publishing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its paperboard products, based on comprehensive life cycle assessments. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and help customers make more informed choices.

Metsä Board Oyj, a leading European paperboard manufacturer, is enhancing transparency in its operations by publishing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for an expanding range of its products. These declarations are underpinned by thorough life cycle assessments (LCA), which evaluate a product's total environmental impact from raw material sourcing to disposal.
The company emphasizes that true transparency involves openly sharing data concerning products, processes, and practices. Life cycle assessments provide critical insights into a product's complete environmental footprint, including production energy, transportation, and end-of-life considerations. Metsä Board's sustainability team adheres to established industry standards and rules for developing these EPDs.
Metsä Board has published verified EPDs for its MetsäBoard Pro FBB Bright and MetsäBoard Prime FBB EB products on its website. The company intends to release similar declarations for other paperboard products in its portfolio in the future. This data enables customers to make more informed decisions regarding the environmental impact of their packaging solutions.
Earlier this year, the company was recognized by CDP, a global environmental disclosure non-profit, for its leadership in corporate transparency and performance on climate change and water security. This marks the eighth consecutive year Metsä Board has been included on CDP's Climate A list and Water A list.
