Metsä Group relocates to timber-framed office building in Finland
Metsä Group has moved its headquarters to the Keilaniemen Portti building, one of Europe's tallest wooden office structures.

Metsä Group has completed its transition to a new corporate headquarters at the Keilaniemen Portti office complex. The project utilizes a hybrid construction method, blending wood, steel, and concrete to maximize structural efficiency while significantly reducing environmental impact. Estimates indicate the building's carbon footprint is approximately 50 percent lower than that of a standard concrete-built equivalent.
The development serves as a practical application of Metsä’s own wood products, including Kerto® LVL, sawn timber, and plywood. These materials have been incorporated into load-bearing frames, interior partitions, and aesthetic cladding. Jussi Björman, Vice President of R&D at Metsä Wood, noted that the project demonstrates the technical versatility of wood when integrated into modern, prefabrication-heavy construction workflows.
Designed for internal collaboration and workspace adaptability, the facility features zones for both focused individual tasks and collective group meetings. The project is currently targeting BREEAM Excellent and WELL Core Gold certifications, reflecting a focus on both sustainable operations and employee wellness. To further reduce the environmental footprint, the company has refurbished and repurposed much of its existing office furniture.
The relocation ends a long tenure at the company’s former base in Tapiola. The new site is positioned at a major multi-modal transit hub, offering employees direct access to metro and light rail lines to encourage the use of public and low-emission transport.
