Metsä Group's sales for 2025 increased by 1.5% compared to the previous year, reaching EUR 5.83 billion. Concurrently, the company's comparable operating result shifted to a loss of EUR -85 million, a decrease from the EUR 203 million profit recorded in the prior year.

The fourth quarter of 2025 showed a comparable operating result of EUR -57 million, compared to EUR 33 million in the same period of the previous year. Factors impacting the late-year results included one-time expenses related to the termination of nearly 800 permanent positions and costs associated with the suspension of the ERP system renewal project.

CEO Jussi Vanhanen stated that sales growth was driven by increased volumes of pulp and sawn timber. However, lower delivery volumes for paperboard and weak performance in the wood product distribution business negatively impacted overall sales.

Demand for market pulp remained muted in both Europe and China. Paperboard delivery volumes and prices decreased, leading to production curtailments due to market conditions and the need to free up working capital. The group is continuing its focus on improving cost competitiveness, aiming for annual savings of EUR 300 million from 2026 onwards.
