Metsä Spring partners Amcor and G. Mondini on wood fibre packaging
Metsä Group's innovation company Metsä Spring is advancing wood fibre-based food packaging through collaboration with Amcor and G. Mondini.

Metsä Spring, Metsä Group’s innovation company, is enhancing its wood fibre-based food packaging development through a strengthened collaboration with packaging solutions leader Amcor and food packaging line specialist G. Mondini.
The initiative aims to integrate Metsä Spring’s Muoto™ moulded fibre packaging solution with Amcor’s barrier liners and top films, alongside G. Mondini’s machinery expertise, to create a fully integrated tray system for protein and chilled ready-meal applications.
The new packaging system is set to be showcased at the Interpack trade fair in Düsseldorf from May 7–13. It will be demonstrated live on G. Mondini’s Trave® Streamline packaging machine.
The Muoto™ tray utilizes renewable northern wood fibre, offering durability and recyclability for food packaging. Combined with Amcor’s barrier technologies, the system supports Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) and skin technologies, extending food shelf life while reducing plastic use. The packaging is also microwaveable, ovenable, and easy-peel.
"It is rewarding to see this collaboration with Amcor, which began about a year ago, along with the valuable contribution of G. Mondini, now delivering tangible results," said Antti Valtonen, VP of the Muoto project at Metsä Spring. "This partnership demonstrates how the right collaborators can achieve performance, reliability, and suitability for demanding food applications."
