Metsä Tissue Increases Production Capacity in Germany for Sustainable Hygiene Products

Metsä Tissue has launched a new production line for folded tissue paper hand towels for professional use at its mill in Raubach, Germany. The line, which began operation in September 2021, is designed to meet local demand and has an annual capacity of approximately 14,000 tonnes.

The investment aims to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the supply chain. The new line allows for over 20% more products to be packed per pallet and truckload, reducing transportation needs and lowering carbon dioxide emissions per tonne delivered.

"According to our strategy, we focus on producing and selling tissue products close to our customers," said Tobias Lüning, Senior Vice President Central Europe at Metsä Tissue. "Our goal is to make the entire value chain, from forest to end product, more sustainable."

The company noted that folded tissue paper hand towels have seen increased demand for hand drying in public spaces, particularly during the pandemic, as an alternative to hot air dryers to reduce bacteria spread.

The line is expected to be in full production by 2022. Metsä Tissue is a leading European tissue paper supplier and part of Metsä Group.
