Metso Approves Second Phase of Tampere Technology Center, Investing EUR 60 Million
Metso Oyj has approved the second phase of construction for its Lokomotion technology center in Tampere, Finland, allocating approximately EUR 60 million over three years. This phase includes building a new crusher factory.

Metso Oyj has decided to proceed with the second phase of its Lokomotion technology center construction in Lahdesjärvi, Tampere, Finland. This phase involves building a new crusher factory and represents an investment of approximately EUR 60 million, to be spent over three years. The company expects to invest about EUR 15 million in 2026 as part of this initiative.
The Lokomotion technology center is designed to be a modern hub for producing and developing technologies, equipment, and components for the aggregates and sand industries. Full completion of the entire center is anticipated in the early 2030s.
Construction for the second phase will commence in June 2026 with groundwork. The new crusher factory is expected to begin production in autumn 2028. This phase will run concurrently with the ongoing first phase, which began in June 2024 and is scheduled for completion in August 2027, featuring assembly and testing facilities for mobile crushers.
The total facility will span approximately 66,000 square meters, with the second phase accounting for about 12,000 square meters. Metso's current Lokomo aggregates production site in Hatanpää will be relocated to the new center, with plans to divest the Hatanpää property afterward.
