Metso completes divestment of Ferrous business to SMS group
Metso Oyj has finalized the sale of its Ferrous business, including pelletizing and direct reduction technologies, to Germany-based SMS group. Approximately 180 employees are transferring.
Metso Oyj announced the completion of its divestment of the Ferrous business to SMS group, a global plant construction and mechanical engineering company for the metals industry. The transaction was initially announced on May 30, 2025.
The divested operations include technologies such as travelling grate pelletizing and the CircoredTM direct reduction process, along with related services. Approximately 180 employees, primarily located in Germany, India, and China, have transferred to SMS group as part of the deal.
Metso stated that the divestment has no material financial impact on the company. This move aligns with Metso's strategy to focus on its core businesses in minerals processing and metals refining, emphasizing sustainable technologies and end-to-end solutions.
The transaction allows SMS group to expand its offerings within the metals industry, while Metso continues to concentrate on enhancing customer productivity and reducing environmental risks in its remaining sectors.
