Metso emphasizes inclusion and diversity in the workplace

Metso Oyj has highlighted the importance of inclusion and diversity within its workforce, emphasizing a workplace culture where every employee can be their authentic self. The company believes that diversity fuels innovation, strengthens teams, and drives progress.

Metso employees Daniela Montecinos and Daiara Alves shared their perspectives on what inclusion and Pride mean to them. Daiara Alves, Assistant Manager of Production in Brazil, describes Pride as a symbol of authenticity, respect, and the freedom to be oneself without fear. She notes that in traditionally male-dominated technical environments, respecting individuals builds confidence and engagement.

Daniela Montecinos, Lead of Logistics in South America, connects Pride to visibility, remembrance, and the creation of safe spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community. She points out that due to prejudice and discrimination, the process of self-acceptance and self-expression can be challenging, making Pride also represent awareness, respect, and the possibility of living authentically.

Both individuals stressed the significance of small, consistent actions in demonstrating support and fostering a sense of belonging. These include respectful treatment, having one's voice heard, and recognition of contributions. They suggest that everyday empathy and environments that do not view differences negatively are more impactful than grand gestures.

Metso believes that being oneself at work liberates energy for achieving results and collaborating, rather than attempting to conform to expectations. The company states that when employees feel comfortable expressing themselves freely and are treated with respect, they are better positioned for professional and personal growth.
