Metso enhances bulk material handling performance with intelligent automation
Metso Oyj has integrated MRA Automation and its software platform. Intelligent automation combines data and coordination to optimize material handling from mine to port.

Metso Oyj is strengthening its intelligent automation capabilities in bulk material handling through a strategic acquisition and the introduction of a new software platform. In February 2026, the company integrated MRA Automation, an Australian firm, adding 60 automation engineers and the Metso Axo33™ software platform to its portfolio.
The Metso Axo33™ platform is designed to optimize the movement, storage, and loading of bulk materials throughout the entire supply chain, from mine to port. Unlike traditional automation, intelligent automation leverages real-time data and system-level coordination, leading to greater visibility, more efficient resource utilization, and adaptable decision-making.
This approach transforms traditionally manually supervised operations into data-driven processes. By synchronizing machinery, material flows, and logistics in real-time, Metso aims to improve performance, enhance safety, and increase asset reliability while reducing operational costs and lifecycle risks.
Significant benefits are expected in the management of storage yards, vessel loading operations, and rail operations. The Metso Axo33™ platform supports various scanning solutions and operates reliably even in challenging environmental conditions such as dust and rain. The software has already automated over 35 yard equipment instances using a digital twin.
