Metso Expands Australian Mill Liner Production with New Press

Metso Oyj is strengthening its presence and commitment to local customer service in Australia by expanding its rubber and Poly-Met™ wear parts production capability. The company is installing a mega-class press at its Canning Vale production facility in Western Australia. This press is designed for large Megaliner™ mill liners and is scheduled to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2025. This move reinforces Metso's position as the sole mill liner manufacturer in Australia.

The investment is intended to improve local customer service and reduce lead times. By manufacturing critical wear parts closer to its customers, Metso aims to increase efficiency and contribute to a more sustainable mining industry. The reduced transportation footprint aligns with Metso's environmental responsibility commitments and supports industry efforts to minimize carbon emissions.

Stuart Sneyd, President of Metso's Asia Pacific region, noted that customers have responded positively to local support advantages following the opening of the Karratha service center in 2024. The new press in Canning Vale signifies a reinforced commitment to customer proximity and state-of-the-art services. This initiative is also expected to lower logistics-related CO2 emissions, supporting Metso's sustainability targets.

The new press will enable the production of very large mill liners, covering up to 4.5m x 3.2m. This capability is expected to facilitate faster and safer mill relines, leading to improved mill availability and increased customer production. The enhanced flexibility and simultaneous production of multiple liners are anticipated to result in greater manufacturing efficiency, reduced costs, and shorter lead times. This expansion complements Metso's existing network of rubber and Poly-Met™ production facilities in key global markets.
