Metso Flotation Technology Improves CSA Copper Mine Recoveries

Metso Oyj's specialized flotation technology and service partnership have yielded notable improvements at the CSA Copper Mine in Cobar, New South Wales, operated by Cobar Management Pty Ltd (CMPL). The collaboration resulted in higher metal recovery rates, a more streamlined control system with reduced maintenance needs, and significant energy savings.

The project involved the replacement of 30 existing scavenger flotation cells with Metso's TankCell technology. Initially focused on equipment replacement, the scope expanded to include engineering, design, installation, and commissioning services. This required close collaboration to overcome challenges such as limited space, structural work modifications, and maintaining operations within a challenging mill environment.

Metso's TankCells were selected for their proven performance, ease of operation, and lower power and air consumption. The company's expertise in managing complex installations ensured that the upgrade was completed on schedule, facilitating better operational efficiency and reliability for the mine.

The installation and commissioning phases, completed by early 2011, have enhanced the mine's production capabilities and reduced the risk of unplanned downtime, demonstrating the value of Metso's technological solutions and collaborative approach.
