Metso Introduces Mill Liner Recycling Solution for Chilean Mining Sector

Metso Oyj has introduced a new recycling service for the mining industry in Chile, focused on recovering materials from worn mill liners.

In Chile, the world's leading copper producer, this solution facilitates the efficient separation of rubber and steel components from mill liners. The objective is to either reuse valuable materials in the manufacturing of new products or to recycle them. This service is part of Metso's broader commitment to supporting sustainable mining practices and reducing the sector's environmental footprint.

Eduardo Nilo, President of South America at Metso, highlighted that the service aids customers in achieving their sustainability and net-zero operational targets. Recycling reduces landfill waste, thereby lowering carbon dioxide emissions and improving environmental efficiency.

The recycling solution will be implemented at Metso's factory in Concón, Chile. Concurrently, the factory's production capacity is being expanded to manufacture new, large-scale Megaliner™ mill liners, some weighing up to 8 tons. The factory's energy consumption will be fully covered by renewable electricity moving forward.
