Metso Invests in Mineralogy Analysis at Finnish Research Center

Metso Oyj has invested in a new automated mineralogy analyzer at its research center in Pori, Finland. The new TESCAN TIMA™ equipment integrates high-resolution scanning electron microscopy with elemental analysis into a fully automated system. The goal is to expedite the delivery of high-quality mineralogical data to support customer projects from early design phases through to operational optimization.

The investment enables Metso specialists to analyze a higher volume of samples, providing detailed quantitative data on ore characteristics, mineral associations, and metallurgical behavior. This facilitates more informed process flowsheet development and reduces project risks. "Mineralogical analysis is the foundation for selecting the appropriate metallurgical route," stated Senior Mineralogist Tero Kravtsov.

Metso's Pori research center is a hub for the company's product development, offering customers services ranging from mineralogy analysis to laboratory testing and flowsheet development. The enhanced analytical capabilities are intended to support the development of sustainable and efficient solutions for the mining industry.

The new investment strengthens Metso's position as a provider of technology and services for mineral processing and metals refining. The company aims to accelerate project turnaround times and improve resource efficiency globally.
