Metso Oyj Implements Job Rotation to Foster Employee Growth
Metso Oyj is utilizing job rotation as a method to enhance employee personal development and cross-functional collaboration. Two employees have taken on roles that partially overlap with their existing responsibilities.

Metso Oyj has initiated a job rotation program aimed at fostering employee growth and improving collaboration across different departments.
The company reports that job rotation promotes personal development and innovative problem-solving. In a recent instance, the customer loyalty team filled a critical position by having two employees split the role, each managing 50% of the new responsibilities while retaining 50% of their previous duties. Yolande Stapelberg joined from Commercial Analytics in Market Area Africa, and Trang Nguyen from a marketing team.
The program's objective is to provide employees with a broader understanding of the business and enhance their skill sets. Both Stapelberg and Nguyen have noted benefits, including learning new skills and stepping outside their comfort zones, emphasizing the crucial support and flexibility provided by their managers.
Metso suggests that job rotation also introduces fresh perspectives into the company, potentially leading to more innovative solutions and increased employee engagement and retention. Team lead Maarit Kivinen has observed that the process has proceeded smoothly, with permanent team members also learning from the rotating colleagues.
Upon completion, the job rotations are expected to bring new insights back to the employees' original teams, reinforcing a culture of continuous learning within the organization.
