Metso to supply process technology for GTK's new pilot plant

Metso Oyj has signed an agreement with the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) for the engineering and delivery of process technology for GTK Mintec's new pilot plant in Outokumpu. The facility is set to significantly expand GTK's research and service offering for the mining and minerals industry, focusing on mineral processing and circular economy materials.

The value of the order, which has not been disclosed, will be booked in Metso's Minerals segment for the third quarter of 2026. The process lines were designed in collaboration with GTK experts, with Metso responsible for the delivery. GTK's Director General Saku Vuori highlighted the agreement as a significant step forward in strengthening industry services.

The new pilot plant will provide a modern environment for pilot-scale testing and optimization of process technologies. Beyond conventional beneficiation technologies, it will enable the development and testing of solutions aimed at reducing energy, water, and chemical consumption. The facility will include two process lines with different capacities, allowing for both large-scale testing and smaller studies, such as those using drill core samples.

Furthermore, the plant will facilitate piloting solutions for side-stream processing, dry stacking of tailings, and closed-loop process water circuits using advanced water treatment technologies. Operations are expected to commence by the end of 2028, reinforcing GTK Mintec's position as an internationally recognized developer of circular economy and mineral processing solutions.
