Effective November 10, 2009, Mexicana Airlines officially became a member of the oneworld alliance. To mark this occasion, the airline has launched a competition for its customers, with two top prizes consisting of round-the-world tickets for two people each, including $2,500 in spending money.

The competition is open to anyone purchasing tickets for flights or tour packages with Mexicana, MexicanaClick, or MexicanaLink between November 10 and December 10, 2009. Tickets must be purchased in Mexico and travel must commence by December 10. Winners will be selected based on the speed and accuracy of their answers to questions about Mexicana and oneworld.

Mexicana is described as a leading airline in Mexico and Central America. Its entry into oneworld is expected to significantly enhance the alliance's network in Latin America. As part of the alliance, members of MexicanaGO, the airline's frequent flyer program, will be able to earn and redeem mileage awards on all oneworld partner airlines, including major carriers like American Airlines and British Airways. Top-tier MexicanaGO members will also gain access to approximately 550 airport lounges worldwide.

The expanded oneworld network now serves nearly 700 destinations in approximately 150 countries, utilizing a combined fleet of around 2,250 aircraft. The alliance has been recognized as the World's Leading Airline Alliance for seven consecutive years at the World Travel Awards.
