Mexico Acquires Second Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules Aircraft

The Mexican Air Force (Fuerza Aérea Mexicana, FAM) has announced the acquisition of a second Lockheed Martin C-130J-30 Super Hercules tactical airlifter. This follows the initial purchase in January 2026, making Mexico the first nation in Latin America to operate the Super Hercules.

The new aircraft is a stretched variant, adding 4.5 meters of cargo space and offering increased power, range, fuel efficiency, and payload capacity. FAM, a long-time operator of the Hercules, can now leverage decades of experience with the modernized Super Hercules.

The expansion of Mexico's air mobility capabilities comes at a critical time. The first C-130J-30 was recently deployed to deliver emergency supplies following earthquakes in Venezuela. The addition of a second aircraft will double this response capacity, enhancing Mexico's ability to provide humanitarian aid and support regional security.

"The C-130J is the backbone of global airlift, and Mexico's continued investment underscores confidence in a platform that delivers decades of operational readiness and unmatched versatility," said Trish Pagan, vice president of Lockheed Martin's Air Mobility & Maritime Missions. She highlighted the aircraft's interoperability with U.S. and allied forces.

Lockheed Martin has supplied the C-130 Hercules family for over fifty years. Mexico's expanded fleet underscores the long-standing partnership between the company and the FAM, reinforcing Mexico's commitment to regional security and cooperation.
