MGI Tech Launches New Stereo-seq OMNI Chip for FFPE Samples
MGI Tech has introduced the Stereo-seq OMNI Large Chip Design, a new format enabling the study of larger tissue areas with preserved spatial context for FFPE samples. The technology was unveiled at ESSB 2026.

MGI Tech has launched a new Stereo-seq OMNI Large Chip Design, specifically for the analysis of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue samples. This new format allows for the study of larger tissue areas while maintaining their original spatial context, which is critical for biological research.
The new chip design was unveiled at the European Society for Stereology and Bioimaging (ESSB) 2026 conference in Sitges, Spain. MGI Tech focuses on developing core tools and technologies for innovation in life sciences. This latest development is expected to significantly accelerate and refine the study of biological mechanisms underlying various diseases, including cancer.
Previous iterations of Stereo-seq technology have offered high-resolution spatial transcriptomics. The new OMNI design aims to scale this capability to cover substantially larger tissue areas without compromising resolution. This represents a significant advancement, enabling researchers to examine more complex tissue structures and cellular interactions at a broader scale.
By enhancing the analytical capabilities for FFPE samples, MGI Tech aims to support a deeper understanding of disease progression and facilitate the discovery of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. The company stated that this technology will allow researchers to derive more insights from traditional tissue samples.
