MHI analysis targets cost reduction in green hydrogen value chain from India

A study by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries indicates that optimizing the supply chain for Indian-produced green hydrogen and ammonia could significantly lower costs for regional exports.

4 November 2026

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has completed an economic feasibility study on the production and export of green hydrogen and ammonia from India. Conducted with support from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the analysis assesses the potential to supply markets such as Singapore with renewable fuels produced in India.

Working alongside Indian developer Hygenco, MHI applied mathematical programming to model the entire value chain from facility specification to international logistics. The findings suggest that by optimizing operational timing to align with fluctuations in renewable energy output, companies can achieve substantial cost reductions compared to current standard models.

MHI has presented these findings to government representatives in both India and Singapore, proposing policy measures to stimulate demand and lower capital barriers. The company stated that it intends to maintain these partnerships to support broader decarbonization strategies and the establishment of stable international supply chains for carbon-neutral energy.
