Actress Mia Goth has criticized Instagram after an AI-generated image depicting her spread across the platform. Goth stated it is "incomprehensible" that the social media giant allowed the image to proliferate without clear labeling of its artificial nature.
The incident gained attention following news of Goth's reported divorce filing from Shia LaBeouf. Subsequently, a post appeared on the account miagoth_—verified with a blue checkmark—featuring Goth in a t-shirt reading "MY EX IS MY BIGGEST FAN," accompanied by Beyoncé's song "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).
The image quickly garnered hundreds of thousands of likes, with entertainment outlets such as OK! and People reporting on it as if it were authentic. Screenshots of the post were widely shared on other platforms, further amplifying its reach.
This event raises questions regarding the identification of AI-generated imagery and its potential misuse on social media. Goth's comments highlight the necessity for improved mechanisms to verify content authenticity and combat misinformation in the digital space.
