A 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello once owned by basketball legend Michael Jordan has sold for $2.7 million at auction. The sale price far surpassed the pre-auction estimates, which ranged from $700,000 to $1.3 million.

The sports car was originally ordered by Jordan in North Carolina. To accommodate his physique, the vehicle featured a custom driver's seat with thinner padding and adjusted rails.

Jordan owned the car for approximately five years, driving it around 6,400 miles during that period. He reportedly used the car frequently during his championship years with the Chicago Bulls, including the 1998 NBA Finals season.

After Jordan sold the car in 2002, it disappeared from public view for 25 years. Miami-based dealership We Are Curated located the vehicle and facilitated its sale through auction house Joopiter.

At the time of the auction, the odometer read 18,501 miles. The car is finished in Rosso Corsa red with a tan leather interior. While other 550 Maranellos typically sell for substantially less, Jordan's ownership history proved to be a significant value driver.
