Michelin Develops Tires to Meet Electric Vehicle Demands
Tire manufacturer Michelin is investing in electric vehicle technology, developing tires designed to handle battery weight, improve energy efficiency, and reduce noise.

Tire manufacturer Michelin is focusing on the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market, developing tires tailored to meet the specific demands of EVs. These include addressing the challenges posed by battery weight, high torque, and quieter operation.
Electric vehicles place unique stresses on tires due to the weight of batteries and their high torque, impacting tire wear and requiring optimized rolling resistance. Michelin claims its tires wear approximately 28% slower than competitors based on a German ADAC test. The company has also introduced MICHELIN Acoustic, a foam ring technology designed to reduce interior noise in silent EVs.
Michelin reports nearly 366 homologations for electric vehicles across more than 60 automotive brands. The company is also positioning itself as a leader in predictive maintenance solutions, having launched the first connected tire with an integrated sensor in 2021.
The company provides tires suitable for various EV categories, including passenger cars, bicycles, and buses. Michelin's "All Sustainable" approach emphasizes reducing the environmental impact throughout a product's lifecycle, solidifying its role as a preferred partner for automakers shaping the EV market.
