The Michelin Guide, known for its restaurant ratings since 1900, has broadened its scope to include exceptional hotels worldwide.
Michelin, the tire manufacturer renowned for its gastronomic guide, has expanded its curated selection to encompass hotels. The Michelin Guide, established in 1900 initially to assist motorists, has long been a benchmark for dining establishments.
The guide's reach has extended to over 40 destinations globally. In addition to its established star ratings for restaurants, it now features the "Michelin Key" to highlight outstanding hotels. This expansion follows years of development and now covers more than 5,000 hotels across approximately 120 countries.
The core of the guide's reputation lies with its inspectors. These industry professionals maintain anonymity and independence while evaluating establishments based on five universal criteria: quality of ingredients, mastery of culinary techniques, harmony of flavors, the chef's personality in the cuisine, and consistency over time. This methodology is applied to both restaurants and hotels.
The newly included hotels are selected for offering unique experiences and reflecting local character. Key selection factors include the hotel's contribution to the local experience, architectural and interior design excellence, and the quality and consistency of service. Michelin aims to provide travelers with a comprehensive resource for both dining and lodging.
