Michelin Sets Net-Zero Emissions Target for 2050
Tire manufacturer Michelin has outlined an ambitious decarbonization plan aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. The strategy focuses on reducing emissions across its operations and supply chain.

Michelin, a global tire manufacturer, has reinforced its commitment to climate action with an updated decarbonization strategy targeting net-zero emissions by 2050. This plan is integrated into the company's broader "All Sustainable" vision.
The company's strategy prioritizes significant reductions in carbon dioxide emissions from its manufacturing facilities, logistics, and supply chain by 2030. Concurrently, Michelin is investing in the design of more energy-efficient tires and the development of low-carbon mobility solutions, including infrastructure for hydrogen-powered transport.
Michelin has a history of environmental initiatives, launching its first energy-efficient "green" tire in 1992 to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The 2021 climate strategy aligns with the "Race to Zero" campaign, aiming to keep global temperature rise within 1.5 degrees Celsius.
The company's objectives have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The assessment covers the entire tire lifecycle, from raw material sourcing to end-of-life tire management. Emissions are tracked across Scope 1 (direct emissions), Scope 2 (purchased energy), and Scope 3 (indirect emissions from the value chain).
