Michelin to Cease Production in Germany, Affecting 1,532 Employees
Michelin announced plans to gradually cease production at its Karlsruhe and Trier sites, and halt new tire and semi-finished product manufacturing in Homburg. The restructuring impacts 1,532 employees and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Tire manufacturer Michelin announced on Tuesday its decision to gradually cease production at its sites in Karlsruhe and Trier, Germany. Additionally, the Homburg facility will stop manufacturing new tires and semi-finished products. The company expects these operational changes to be completed by the end of 2025, affecting a total of 1,532 employees.
The company also plans to transfer its Customer Contact Center from Karlsruhe to Poland. Michelin cited increasing competition from budget truck tires and a lack of competitiveness in its German operations for European and export markets as reasons for the decision.
Michelin will record a provision of approximately 425 million euros in its consolidated financial results for 2023 related to these restructuring efforts. The move is part of the company's strategy to adapt to evolving market conditions and enhance its global competitive position.
