Micromax Launches Family Office for Deeptech Startup Investments

Micromax Informatics, an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), has announced the formation of a family office with an initial corpus of ₹250 crore (approximately $26 million) dedicated to backing deeptech startups.

The newly formed entity will focus on pre-Series A to Series B startups developing "differentiated technologies and scalable intellectual property." Key sectors of interest include artificial intelligence, semiconductors, defense technology, spacetech, and robotics.

According to Aakil Garg, Micromax Informatics' head of investments, the family office intends to issue average check sizes ranging from ₹10 crore to ₹20 crore. The firm will prioritize founders building for scale, where Micromax's existing industry, manufacturing, and technology ecosystem can provide value beyond just capital.

While the family office has begun deploying capital, specific portfolio companies have not yet been disclosed. Micromax Informatics co-founder Rahul Sharma stated the initiative aims to "empower founders with the resources, partnerships, and industry expertise needed to transform breakthrough ideas into impactful solutions and sustainable businesses."

Beyond financial backing, the family office plans to support portfolio companies in accelerating commercialization, enhancing manufacturing capabilities, and scaling supply chains. Selected startups will also gain access to Micromax's semiconductor technology network, global partnerships, and in-house manufacturing facilities. This move aligns Micromax with a growing trend of Indian family offices actively investing in the startup ecosystem.
