Microsoft is expediting the migration of multiple Windows 11 interfaces to its WinUI 3 platform, starting with the file properties dialog. This move aims to modernize the operating system's user interface and improve visual consistency.
Microsoft has announced an acceleration in the process of migrating various Windows 11 interfaces to the WinUI 3 platform. The company confirmed that the file properties dialog has begun testing for this transition.
March Rogers, Director of Design Programs at Microsoft, clarified through social media that the overhaul of the file properties dialog is not merely a theme change on legacy code. Instead, it has been rebuilt using WinUI 3, signaling a commitment to native UI development within Windows.
This initiative addresses a prior issue where the properties window remained white regardless of the system's light or dark theme. Rogers indicated that previous dark mode implementations were interim solutions, and the move to WinUI 3 represents a more fundamental approach to updating the OS interface.
WinUI 3 is Microsoft's native UI framework for building Windows applications, offering modern controls and Fluent Design elements. It is intended to leverage GPU rendering more effectively and gradually replace older Win32 and UWP interface technologies for a more cohesive user experience.
