Microsoft: AI Accelerates Cyberattacks, Defense Capabilities Also Evolving
Microsoft reports that AI is increasing the speed and sophistication of cyberattacks. The company states it is also leveraging AI to enhance its defenses and advises businesses to stay updated.

Microsoft has issued a warning that artificial intelligence (AI) is accelerating the pace and sophistication of cyberattacks. However, the company also emphasized that AI is being employed to enhance its own security defense mechanisms.
Pavan Davuluri, executive vice president of Windows and devices at Microsoft, detailed in a blog post how the tech giant is responding to escalating threats. He explained that applying AI to security analysis allows for faster pattern identification, risk prioritization, and scaled vulnerability discovery across the Windows codebase, reducing the time between discovery and customer protection.
Key to Microsoft's defense is a system called MDASH (Microsoft Security's multi-model agentic scanning harness), which utilizes over 100 AI agents and multiple advanced AI models to discover and validate exploitable bugs. The division responsible for Windows operating systems has integrated vulnerability discovery into the development process for new features and software updates, identifying potential issues before public release.
Davuluri advises both businesses and individuals to maintain up-to-date software by installing the latest patches and releases. He specifically recommends that businesses consult Microsoft's Security Update Guide to assess the vulnerabilities of recent updates. Tools like Windows Autopatch are also available to ensure devices and applications remain current.
