Microsoft will host an online event on October 7th, aimed at developers and builders, to discuss the role of local artificial intelligence in the next phase of PC development. The event is expected to reveal future plans for Windows and Surface devices.
The company has indicated a collaboration with Nvidia for the event, which will showcase new experiences related to RTX Spark. RTX Spark is described as a "superchip" platform from Nvidia designed for thin and light laptops and small form factor desktops, integrating Grace Arm CPUs and Blackwell architecture RTX GPUs with unified memory.
Details regarding a potential Surface Laptop Ultra are anticipated, with specifications possibly including the RTX Spark platform, up to 128GB of unified memory, and full CUDA support. This hardware could enable the local processing of large AI models.
The event will feature Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Pavan Davuluri, head of Windows and Surface. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is also scheduled to participate, highlighting the companies' partnership in advancing on-device AI capabilities.
