Microsoft brings original Xbox games to Windows PCs
Microsoft has expanded its backward compatibility efforts to Windows PCs, making select original Xbox titles officially playable and purchasable on the platform.
Microsoft has officially made select titles from the original Xbox console available for Windows PCs, extending the company's backward compatibility initiatives beyond its console ecosystem.
The "Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC" program launches with four games: BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy. These titles are available for purchase at $10 each. Xbox Game Pass subscribers and users with existing digital licenses for these games on console gain instant access without an additional charge.
Playing these older Xbox titles on PC introduces enhancements such as VSync support, anisotropic filtering, and improved anti-aliasing. The games' resolution can be scaled up to four times the original SD signal, reaching a maximum of 2560x1920. However, frame rates and aspect ratios remain at their original settings, typically 30 frames per second and a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Microsoft states the games should be playable on hardware as old as an 11-year-old GTX 950 graphics card, though a 2017-era GTX 1070 Ti with 8GB of VRAM is recommended for optimal performance.
