Microsoft consolidates AI features in Windows 11 OneDrive menu

Starting in mid-November 2026, Microsoft will move fragmented AI options in the Windows 11 File Explorer into a unified Copilot entry point.

21 October 2026

Microsoft is set to update the OneDrive context menu in Windows 11 File Explorer by mid-November 2026. The change aims to reduce menu clutter by integrating various AI-driven options into a singular access point.

Currently, users see multiple individual actions when right-clicking a file under OneDrive, such as summarization, file comparison, and text extraction. These options have frequently overlapped with the primary "Ask Copilot" command, leading to a crowded user interface.

Under the new configuration, these specific tasks will be consolidated under the "Ask Copilot" menu. Microsoft reports that while the layout is changing, the core functionality remains available to users. These tools will still be accessible via the right-click menu, hovering over project items, or through the OneDrive activity center.

This update is designed to create a more consistent workflow for users interacting with generative AI features within the Windows operating system.
