Microsoft has introduced its Microsoft Defender security solution to the Linux platform as a public preview. This new version offers Linux users enterprise-grade antivirus, endpoint detection and response (EDR) capabilities, vulnerability management, and other advanced security tools.

The release extends Microsoft's security offerings beyond traditional Windows environments. The new Linux version supports several popular distributions, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), Fedora, and Oracle Linux. Access requires a Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 2 subscription or Microsoft 365 E5/E7.

Beyond antivirus, Defender for Linux includes features such as threat analysis, advanced threat hunting, real-time response, and device isolation. Microsoft has focused on simplifying the installation process and providing a unified management experience for security operations.

With this expansion, the technology giant aims to enhance security in diverse enterprise environments that utilize both Windows and Linux systems, providing a comprehensive and consistent security posture across all company devices, regardless of location or operating system.
