Microsoft drops 'Copilot Plus PC' branding
Microsoft is discontinuing the 'Copilot Plus PC' brand for its AI-powered computers shortly after its introduction. The change signifies a potential shift in the company's marketing strategy.

Microsoft is phasing out the 'Copilot Plus PC' brand for its latest AI-enabled computers, just about two and a half years after its initial launch. Despite meeting the system requirements for the designation, new devices like the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop will not be marketed under this name.
Brett Ostrom, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft Surface, confirmed to The Verge that the devices are no longer referred to as Copilot Plus PCs. This move comes relatively soon after Microsoft and partners like Qualcomm established the brand to highlight AI capabilities built into PCs.
The 'Copilot Plus PC' designation was initially intended to identify computers with sufficient onboard AI processing power for various tasks. The reasons behind abandoning the brand have not been fully detailed, but it may reflect challenges in establishing market recognition or a strategic simplification.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella had previously championed the Copilot Plus PC initiative. The discontinuation suggests a re-evaluation of how the company intends to position and market its AI-focused PC hardware moving forward. Further details on future branding approaches are expected.
