Microsoft Edge to phase out support for older ad blockers

Microsoft Edge is set to discontinue support for the Manifest V2 (MV2) extension platform. This upcoming change will effectively block many current ad blockers, including the widely used uBlock Origin, from functioning within the browser.

The transition away from MV2 to the newer Manifest V3 (MV3) platform aligns with Google Chrome's similar decision implemented earlier this year. Microsoft states that only a small number of extensions in the Edge Add-Ons store still utilize the outdated MV2 platform, and most of those have alternatives available on MV3.

Users who rely on MV2-compatible ad blockers will need to seek alternatives. Options include switching to newer ad blockers that support the MV3 platform, such as uBlock Origin Lite, or considering alternative browsers that continue to support existing MV2 extensions.
