Microsoft Extends Windows 10 Security Updates to October 2027

Microsoft has extended the availability of paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) for its Windows 10 operating system until October 2027, a change that was made without significant public announcement and noted on Microsoft's support pages.

The original end date for ESU security updates was scheduled for October 2026. The new guidance indicates that the final security update will be delivered on October 12, 2027. Microsoft has stated that users already enrolled in the ESU program will not need to take further action, as updates will continue automatically. The process for new users to join the ESU program remains unchanged.

Within the European Economic Area (EEA), ESU updates are free for individual users who sign in to Windows 10 with a Microsoft account. Elsewhere, or without a Microsoft account, a one-time fee of approximately 30 euros applies.

For business customers, the ESU program continues to be a paid service. Businesses can purchase extended security patches for up to three years at tiered pricing. The first year costs around 60 euros per device, the second year approximately 120 euros, and the third year about 240 euros.
