Microsoft introduces Windows 11 menu customization as PC license revenue falls
Microsoft has released a preview update for Windows 11 that allows users to customize right-click context menus, coinciding with a reported decline in PC license sales.

Microsoft is testing an update for Windows 11, designated KB5127936, which allows users to modify the operating system's right-click context menu. The update addresses long-standing user complaints regarding the simplified menu structure, which had hidden frequently used commands behind submenus. Users can now toggle specific commands, rearrange items, and manage third-party extensions directly through a new customization interface.
The timing of the update follows Microsoft's latest quarterly report, which confirmed a sustained decline in revenue from Windows licenses for new PCs. As the hardware market cools, industry analysts suggest the company is attempting to improve user retention by addressing friction points that have historically prompted power users to employ third-party scripts to restore legacy functionality.
In addition to menu updates, the release includes a "Cloud Rebuild" feature. This recovery option enables users to reinstall Windows 11 and system drivers directly from the cloud without the need for external media or recovery drives, even if the current system fails to boot. The company clarified that this process functions as a fresh installation, meaning existing files and applications will not be preserved.
