Microsoft Outlook Classic Version Migration Starts March 2027

Microsoft has announced plans to begin migrating users away from the classic version of Outlook towards its newer application for Windows 10 and Windows 11 beginning in March 2027. The phased rollout, initially targeting enterprise environments, will provide organizations with a 12-month window to prepare for the transition. This move is part of Microsoft's strategy to consolidate its email client offerings.

While the migration is set for March 2027, users will still be able to open the classic Outlook application. However, certain functions, such as opening links, will automatically redirect to the new Outlook. Official support for the classic Outlook application is slated to continue until April 2029 for users who have purchased perpetual or subscription licenses. No further feature development will occur for the classic version after March 2027.

Microsoft has indicated that specific timelines for GCC High and Department of Defense environments will be communicated separately. The information stems from reporting by technology publication Windows Latest, which cited Microsoft's official support documentation.
