The trend of increasing vulnerability disclosures has been evident in recent months. Just two months prior, Microsoft patched 570 vulnerabilities, followed by 620 the previous month. Other major technology firms, including Google, have also reported record numbers of vulnerabilities.
Industry stakeholders, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Amazon Web Services, have issued warnings regarding the escalating threat of AI-powered attacks. These advanced methods can accelerate the exploitation of discovered vulnerabilities, compelling companies to enhance their patching cadences.
Dustin Childs, a researcher at the Zero Day Initiative, characterizes the current situation as the "new normal." He cautions, however, that the potential damage resulting from AI-assisted attacks could still be substantial, despite the increased volume of security patches being deployed.
