Microsoft Plans $10 Billion Investment in Middle East Cloud and AI

Microsoft intends to invest more than $10 billion in capital and operating expenses across the Middle East by 2030. The initial focus will be on expanding cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure within Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The investment plan also allocates over $400 million by 2030 for subsea and terrestrial connectivity. Microsoft stated this expansion will increase network capacity and ensure continuity during disruptions, leveraging the region's position as a key routing point between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

The technology firm will deepen partnerships with governments and national AI organizations in the region. Furthermore, Microsoft plans to offer sovereign cloud, cybersecurity, and digital resilience capabilities, aligning with Gulf states' objectives for digital sovereignty and enhanced control over sensitive data.

Microsoft also reiterated its commitment to investing in AI skills and workforce readiness, building on a prior pledge to help over 4.2 million individuals acquire necessary skills by 2030. In Saudi Arabia specifically, the company aims to assist three million people in gaining AI skills within the same timeframe.
