Microsoft reissues update to resolve recurring Excel copy-paste bug

Microsoft has released a revised version of its October Windows update to fix a bug that disabled copy-and-paste functionality in Excel 2016.

3 November 2026

Microsoft confirmed that its October update, KB5002934, caused recurring issues with the copy-and-paste function for users running Excel 2016. The flaw prompted affected users to uninstall the update to restore functionality, confirming the patch as the root cause of the disruption.

This incident marks the second time in recent months that a security update has triggered copy-paste errors. A similar issue occurred in September with the rollout of update KB5002914, which the company subsequently addressed with a patch on September 19.

To resolve the latest recurrence, Microsoft has reissued the KB5002934 update. This revised version upgrades the affected Excel build from 16.0.5574.1005 to 16.0.5574.1006. The company states that this version effectively mitigates the technical failure for all users.
